What is GRE?

GRE or The Graduate Record Examinations is a standardized admission requirement test for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada and few in other countries. The GRE is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service measures one's verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills of students aspiring to undergo their graduate studies abroad.

The test helps graduate schools of all fields to assess the potential of their applicants. GRE is a computer-based test that is scored on a maximum of 340 and is a major factor taken into consideration in the process of an applicant landing a program in their desired university.

What is the Scoring Scale for GRE?

The GRE test consists of 3 parts- verbal reasoning. quantitative reasoning, analytical writing.

  1. The total score must range from 260-340 in a 1-point increment and the analytical writing assessment is separate.
  2. The AWA/ Analytical Writing Assessment section grades are from 0-6 in 0.5-point increments.
  3. The Quantitative Reasoning section scores are from 130-170 in a 1-point increment.
  4. The Verbal Reasoning section scores are from 130-170 in a 1-point increment.

Anybody can take the GRE irrespective of their educational qualification. But to start a master's program one must be a graduate.

How Many Times in a Year is the GRE Exam Held?

GRE happens all working days in India up to Friday. The test schedule can be obtained from www.gre.org

How Many Times Can I Take The GRE?

One can take the GRE an unlimited number of times However one can take tests only 5 times in a calendar year. There has to be a minimum gap of 21 days between the two tests.

What Is the Validity of The GRE?

5 years from the date the test was taken.

How Soon Will I Receive my GRE Score?

You will receive the scores for the math and verbal sections the moment you finish the exam. Official scores (with scores for AWA) will take about 7-10 days to reach you.

Which Score Will Be Considered by The University if I have taken the GRE test more than once?

You can choose the score that you want to send to the university.

When should I take the GRE Test to apply to universities?

Technically, you can take it as late as July 15. However, it is best to take the GRE at least 15 days before the deadline so that you have enough time to prepare for the other parts of your application.

Can I Cancel My Exam Date?

If the test registration is cancelled till 4 days ahead of the test, 50% of the fees will be refunded. There will be no refunds after that.

What Happens if I Reschedule My Test?

The test date and the test centre can be changed to 4 days ahead of the test date by paying a fee of USD 50

What Happens if I Cancel the Gre Score and Want It Reinstated?

When you see the final GRE score you will be given the option to cancel the score. Once you cancel the score it will not appear on your scorecard. You can reinstate your cancelled scores within 60 days by paying a fee of USD 50.
