What is TOEFL?

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam is a standardised test conducted by ETS to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers who wish to enrol in English-speaking universities.

TOEFL exam is a widely popular exam and is accepted by more than 11000 universities in over 150 countries and in addition, alot of licensing and certification agencies and exchange and scholarship programs use TOEFL scores to evaluate the English proficiency of students whose native language is not English

Students can take the TOEFL test round the year and select from various test centres across major cities. Given the pandemic, ETS has launched a home version of the TOEFL test where students can take the test from the safety of their homes.

TOEFL tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.

There are 4 scores reported for the TOEFL Test and the scoring is between the minimum of 0 and a maximum of 120 points with 1 point increment

  4. The speaking score can range between 0-30 scale

What is the registration fee for the TOEFL?

The registration fee for taking the TOEFL® is USD 180.

How do I register for the TOEFL®?

How many times in a year can I give the TOEFL® exam?

The exam happens on specific days in a year and depending on the country the schedule may vary. Although there is no limit to the number of times you can take the test, you cannot take it more than once in 12 days.

What is the validity of the TOEFL® exam?

Your TOEFL® score will be valid for 2 years from the date the test was taken.

How soon will I get my score?

The scores are available online 2 weeks after the exam date.

.How do I pass on my score to college?

You must send the official scores to the universities directly by ETS.

Do universities consider photocopies of the TOEFL® scorecard? Do I have to send scores through ETS?

No, photocopies are not accepted. You have to send your scores only through ETS.

Which score will be considered by the universities if the test is taken multiple times?

Universities take the best score out of all.

What is the minimum TOEFL® score that I need?

One has to score over 80 for admissions. For MS and Undergraduate programs, over 100 for PhD and MBA courses.
If you are looking for financial aid or scholarships, you must have a score of 100

Do I need the TOEFL score while applying to universities?

Yes, you must have your score while applying to universities.
